Lets talk about Menopause and Peri-menopause..................

It’s a time in our life that can present us with many serious challenges. When we think of menopause, all too often, it’s so poorly represented by a comedy sketch of a woman having a hot flush, but actually there is far more to the menopause than this and for many, there is no joke and it presents serious and disabling symptoms that are all too frequently dismissed as something that we, as women, should just learn to accept.

In reality, for many women menopause is a time of catastrophic symptoms of emotional and mental upheaval and disabling physical symptoms.

Sad on Couch

Nobody talks about the accompanying apathy and lack of motivation that makes day to day living so difficult, about the effects of insomnia, the hot sweats, the emotional upheaval, the pain in our bodies, the brain fog, the anxiety and/or depression, and the feeling of losing our sense of identity and the woman we once were, to just name a few.

It shouldn’t be like this, and we owe a debt of gratitude to women like Davina McCall, who have really pushed menopause, and everything that comes with it, into mainstream media and have given it that the attention it rightly deserves. Its not just a phase, for some it can be life altering and not always in a positive way.

As women we don’t need to suffer like this but unfortunately for many, the only options available are antidepressants or HRT, however,

Traditional Chinese Medicine has a deeper understanding of what happens to a women during the menopause and an arsenal of tools at its disposal to help you navigate this difficult path.

Prescription Medication
Acupuncture Tools

I am pleased to be able to offer a dedicated menopause/Peri-menopause clinic where we are able to use the power of acupuncture, herbs, mycology, nutrition, supplements, Bach flower remedies, and essential oils, alongside other modalities such as meditation, personal coaching, and a safe space to discuss how menopause is affecting you.

All of which can easily either be integrated alongside conventional Western Medicine approaches, or if preferred, used as stand alone treatments.

I wholeheartedly believe that by implementing a Western and Eastern approach together, we can make a huge difference.

I am also launching a peer support group for patients, where we can meet for mutual support over a coffee and a slice of cake; the power of feeling heard and not alone and isolated on this challenging journey is very comforting. To feel seen, heard and understood is a vital part of mastering menopause.
